When Should I Consider a Medical Weight Loss Program?

When Should I Consider a Medical Weight Loss Program?

Are you struggling to bring your weight to a healthy level? Do you fear that if you don’t lose weight, your health will suffer? Or perhaps it is already suffering because of your weight. Have your efforts to shed excess weight fallen short?

If so, you may be ready to consider a medical weight loss program. This is a program that incorporates medical supervision and treatment to bring about safe, successful weight loss.

At Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics in Atlanta, Georgia, our team of weight loss care providers has extensive training and experience with medical weight loss programs.

Here, we share information about medical weight loss programs, including what they are, how they help with weight loss, and whether you are a good candidate for medical weight loss.

Weight loss with medical supervision

Medical weight loss is a program, strategy, or treatment that is overseen by a physician. It may include medication and/or bariatric surgery, along with lifestyle adjustments such as changes in diet and activity levels.

Medical weight loss treatment may also include behavioral therapy and/or psychiatric treatment.

Who can benefit from medical weight loss programs?

You may be a good candidate for medical weight loss programs if you fit into one or more of the following categories:

What to expect from medical weight loss treatment

If you believe you may benefit from medical weight loss treatment, we invite you to come in for an evaluation.

During your evaluation, we ask you about your overall health, your health history, your family medical history, your weight, your experience trying to lose weight, and your health and weight loss goals. We also conduct a physical examination.

If necessary, we may recommend medical testing to learn more about your health. For example, we may order bloodwork to check on your blood sugar.

If we determine that you are a good candidate for a medical weight loss program, we create a personalized treatment plan.

Your treatment plan, which is customized to align with your health and weight goals, may include prescription weight loss medication, information about weight loss surgery, and/or recommendations regarding diet and exercise.

Should we recommend surgical weight loss procedures, you may attend our free webinar every Saturday at 9am Eastern time. This webinar provides details about the various weight loss surgery options at Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics.
