FDA Approves Lap-Band for lower BMI Patients

Breaking News! The FDA approves Lap Band for lower BMI patients. Now patients with a BMI of 30 – 35 can qualify for Lap-Band surgery if they have diseases associated with obesity. The decision comes not long after an advisory panel to the FDA had voted to loosen the restrictions.

While this does give the opportunity for millions more Americans to enjoy the benefits of the Lap-Band procedure, it does not mean that insurance companies will change their qualification criteria anytime soon. Please speak to our office about the benefits and risks of Lap-Band surgery and your options for financing the procedure.
