Governor Deal has made September in Georgia “Childhood Obesity Awareness Month” and Saturday, September 17, 2011 will be “Childhood Obesity Awareness Day.” This is a great step forward in shedding more light on a problem that is affecting Georgia’s youth. Over 15% of children from two to four years of age, 24% of third grade children, 15% of middle school children and 14% of high school students are obese, according to the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Public Health.
(C.H.O.I.C.E.S.), the Center Helping Obesity In Children End Successfully, Inc. will host a Children’s Nutrition Education & Physical Activity Expo to raise awareness for this growing problem affecting our children.
The Expo will take place on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 9:00am – 2:00pm at First Congregational Church at125 Ellis Street NE, Atlanta, GA 30303. Volunteers are needed, so please contact CHOICES at www.ChoicesForKids.org or call (678) 819-3663
Dr. Duncan is the chairman of the board of C.H.O.I.C.E.S, an organization dedicated to helping children that have been diagnosed with or are at risk of developing childhood obesity. The program offers resources for children and their parents to learn more about nutrition, community involvement, prevention and physical activity.
