Weight Loss Surgery
Weight loss surgery, also known as bariatric surgery, has been highly effective, in the hands of qualified surgeons, in assisting obese individuals in losing excess weight. The key to successful long-term weight loss includes establishing a “healthy lifestyle behavior” including a commitment to healthy eating, improved physical activity and establishing a healthy attitude towards health and lifestyle change. Weight loss surgery has been shown to provide assistance in making healthy lifestyle change a daily part of life.
At Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics, the surgical weight loss process does not begin or end with bariatric surgery. As a matter of fact, we feel that the surgery is only a small part of the process. We are committed to providing patients with a holistic approach that goes beyond diet and exercise. Our team is dedicated to not only educating patients in the benefits of healthy eating and exercise, but teaching our patients how to maintain that lifestyle through effective support mechanisms. Our team approach provides individuals with nutritional, exercise and psychological support that make long-term weight loss an absolute achievable goal.
Our team includes a medical weight loss specialist, certified dietician, exercise physiologist, nurse practitioner, psychologist and bariatric surgeon. Each patient is assigned a special bariatric advocate that leads them through the entire process from insurance verification to scheduling the surgery date. Learn more about our bariatric staff.
Why we’re Different:
Unlike traditional weight loss programs that attempt to take a one-size-fits-all approach, we design each plan around the lifestyle and needs of each patient. Because the health and success of our patients is our highest priority, we are committed to being with you every step of the way, providing support and information to ensure that your experience is a positive one. If you are ready to lose a significant amount of weight, let Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics be your bariatric surgery resource.
There are several options for weight loss surgery. Among them is the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass procedure that is frequently performed at Atlanta Medical Center and Atlanta Aesthetic Surgery Center. Gastric bypass is designed to reduce the amount of food you are able to eat and it is a permanent procedure that changes the structure of the stomach, helping patients achieve and maintain their weight loss goal. Read more about Gastric Bypass.
The Adjustable Gastric Banding System, which is performed at Atlanta Medical Center and Atlanta Aesthetic Surgery Center, involves placing a silicone band around the upper part of the stomach to create a small pouch that holds limited amounts of food. When accompanied by dietary and lifestyle changes, the Adjustable Gastric Banding System may promote lifelong weight loss. The two brands of adjustable gastric band that we use are LAP-BAND® and Realize® Band. Read more about Gastric Banding.
The vertical sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive form of weight loss surgery in which approximately 85% of the stomach is removed leaving a cylindrical or sleeve shaped stomach with a capacity ranging from about 60 to 150 cc. Unlike many other forms of bariatric surgery, the outlet valve and the nerves to the stomach remain intact and, while the stomach is drastically reduced in size, its function is preserved. The sleeve gastrectomy is not reversible. Read more about Gastric Sleeve, Sleeve Gastrectomy.
For those patients who have already had weight loss surgery but have regained some of their weight, Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics also specializes in techniques to revise your pouch to help get rid of those few extra pounds that you’ve regained. Learn more about our Back on Track program
