Most patients who have had gastric bypass have been successful in losing significant weight and have achieved a healthier lifestyle. A few patients, however, have experienced some weight regain a few years after their weight loss surgery. This occurs when the new stomach pouch has stretched or more commonly when the opening between the stomach pouch and the small intestine (picture of anatomy) has enlarged.
A new procedure, named Overstitch, has recently been developed that can restore that opening to it’s original size and therefore allow patients to lose some or all of the weight that they have gained. However this procedure is still only the 1st step to help you achieve an overall change in your daily lifestyle habits.
