Shannon’s Dish of the Week! Lemon Pepper Beef and Cabbage

Every week, Shannon, our dietitian will be sharing her dish of the week. These great recipes are perfect for weight loss surgery patients and just about anyone else!

This week’s recipe is:

Lemon Pepper Beef and Cabbage

Ingredients:

100 grams lean ground beef or steak
2 cups minced cabbage
1 cup beef broth
1 Tbs. minced onion
A sprinkle of onion and garlic powder
2 lemon slices (with rind)
1 bay leaf
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/2 cup water (or more as needed)

Directions:

Brown the ground beef with the onion. Pat off any excess oil carefully. Sprinkle spices on the meat and add beef broth, bay leaf, and lemon slices. Bring to a boil and add cabbage and water. Sprinkle liberally with fresh ground pepper and simmer until water is absorbed and the pan begins to brown. Add a little more water to deglaze the pan and continue cooking until cabbage is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed again. Remove lemon slices and bay leaf and serve hot. Garnish with a lemon wedge and additional black pepper.

Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics Opens New Peachtree-Dunwoody Office

Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics recently announced plans to expand to the north side of Atlanta by opening a new office on Peachtree-Dunwoody Road. Peachtree Surgical & Bariatrics have performed over 6,000 bariatric procedures and their goal of true “behavior modification through weight loss surgery” has been crucial in their overall success. It is vital to an individual to have continuous support and long-term frequent follow-up to accomplish long-term success.

Weight regain is always a concern unless the patient is committed to their overall health and long-term follow-up. It has been shown that patients who follow-up more frequently with support staff, such as the dietician, psychologist and exercise physiologist, are much more likely to lose the weight, improve their health and keep the weight off for the long term.

Seeing a patient back on once every 3 – 6 months leaves too much “wiggle room” for a patient to stray back to old habits according to Dr. Titus D. Duncan, CEO of Peachtree Surgical. “It has been our experience that patients who follow-up with a “Bariatric Aftercare Center” at least on a monthly basis are much more successful in the long term.
“This is why we’ve expanded and opened a new office on the north side of town, so that patients can receive long-term care in their own back yard, making it easier for more frequent follow-ups.” You can’t just operate on an individual, give them an instruction manual and say, “now just follow this and go lose the weight.” Patients need regular long-term support and education on how to use their new behavior modification tool.

This week’s recipe is:

HCG P2 Chicken Chili

Nutrition Info

Calories: 166.6
Fat: 1.8g
Carbohydrates: 16.3g
Protein: 22.3g

Ingredients

1 large tomato, diced
3oz chicken, diced
.5 cup diced onion
1 garlic clove, diced
1tsp cumin
1tsp chili powder
.5tsp cilantro

Directions
In a medium size non-stick pan(or pot) cook chicken till done. Add diced tomatoes, onion, garlic, and spices to chicken. Cook on med high until tomatoes are soft. Add small amounts of water if needed. Cook till juices reduce down. Serve hot!

Free Weight Loss Seminar @ Peachtree North

It is important to begin your weight loss journey by attending an information seminar. The doctor and staff will provide a broad overview of the surgical treatment of morbid obesity. You will have the opportunity to speak directly to the staff about any questions concerning the process leading to surgery as well as the safety of the procedure. You will also have a chance to speak with others who have had bariatric surgery, to ask about their experiences before and after. The seminar empowers you to make the right decision about surgery and whether it is right for you.
