Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence

Peachtree Surgical and Bariatrics is proud to be a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence or COE. This designation is offered to a select number of bariatric practices that meet qualification criteria set forth by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. But in practical terms, what does the blue Center of Excellence seal actually mean? A Center of Excellence practice is one that has demonstrated a high level of patient care, significant patient volumes and exceptional surgical outcomes. After a rigorous evaluation of our facilities and practices by an independent evaluation team, the ASMBS was satisfied that we met these stringent criteria. But receiving our certification does not end the process. We also must maintain the designation with yearly renewals that are rigorous and ensure continued quality over the long-term.

From an insurance coverage and payment standpoint, the Center of Excellence designation is also important because Medicare and Medicaid will only cover bariatric surgery performed at a COE facility.

While it may sound like a Center of Excellence practice is a surefire way to get the care and quality that you need, you should be mindful of other factors when choosing your surgeon. Ultimately, the best surgeon and surgical practice is the one that is right for your particular circumstances. Every practice is different, just as every patient has unique needs and desires. That’s why it is important to use Center of Excellence designation as a helpful guide to evaluate the extent of the practice’s experience and level of patient care. One of the best ways to evaluate your options is to attend a free weight loss surgery seminar. Doing this, and spending time at the subsequent consultation, can be just what you need to find out if the practice is right for you.

We wish you the best of luck choosing the right procedure and practice for your bariatric surgery needs, and we sincerely hope to see you at our next weight loss surgery seminar in the Atlanta area.
